Have you seen movies where characters are able to co-exist in the virtual and physical world? Seems oddly futuristic, doesn't it? Well, we're here to tell you that the future is here! Virtual reality is one of the fastest growing technologies, and it's not all about games.
This talk by Sheela Kiiskilä explores the Virtual Reality world along with associated technologies like Augmented Reality (AR) and Extended Reality (ER). You can see where VR is used today and where it is headed!
You will be able to experience AR firsthand and even have the chance to peek into the VR world!
Sheela will also explain how VR is helping in education and will show the brand new XR campus designed by our very own Tampere University researchers.
Biodata of Speaker
Sheela Kiiskilä is a doctoral researcher at NOVI Research unit in TAU. Her current projects include EU commission initiatives such as Micro-credentials and Blockchain technologies. She also works with some of the coolest researchers focusing on XR technologies (augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality) and building XR campus for ECIU University.
She is also an engineer, entrepreneur, science educator, maker and glass artist. She holds two patents in wireless technologies and loves building LEGOs as much as she loves playing games in VR. She is always exploring the latest technologies and ways to integrate them into education.
Understanding Science Better with AR
Years ago, Sheela made this small beautiful glass artwork inspired by the orange flowers in her backyard in California that used to attract humming birds. Today, she made a small AR experience making humming birds come out of it and fly around for you to experience on the 4th of November!
"So, today I made a small AR experience making humming birds come out of it and fly around... experimenting what I can create so people or students who come for the science cafe can experience."
